Monica Phillips is a local Issaquah artist who loves anything glass. She learned how to fuse glass in Northern California and participated in many shows in the SF Bay Area prior to moving to Issaquah. When she started working with dichroic glass, she was so prolific that she had to learn traditional silversmithing techniques to give the glass the setting it deserved. Her earrings, pendants and rings are handmade using .999 fine silver, .925 Sterling Silver, or 14K Gold Filled materials, along with dichroic fused glass. Continuing her love of glass, Monica also makes borosilicate beads and blows small glass vessels using an oxygen/natural gas torch. She is fortunate to have a scientific background, which led her to microscopic crystal photography using a camera-fitted polarizing microscope, proving that science is art. Crystal microscopy is quite challenging and rewarding. Her goal is to make unique, colorful art and not listen to her inner critic. She is currently serving as the Mt Si Artist Guild President.
