YUPO for Fun! with Mary Schumaker
Date: Saturday September 17
Time: Noon to 3:00 PM
Location: Si View Community Center main classroom,
400 SE Orchard Dr, North Bend, WA 98045
YUPO is a synthetic paper which is recyclable, waterproof and tree-free, with attributes and properties that make it magical to paint on.
The Yupo class will open with a brief description of Yupo, its properties and the do`s and don'ts specific to Yupo. I have several storyboard examples of the various techniques that I have found to be compatible with Yupo and I will go through them with you so that you can see how truly intriguing Yupo can be.
The class project will be on a quarter sheet of Yupo. We will be painting a tree branch with a bird nest and eggs. I will not be supplying references for the painting project as this is a very direct [from your creative mind, through your hand, to the surface] painting process. I feel that the simplicity of this subject will allow you to paint in a very individualistic fashion. You are free to bring your own printed out references of bird`s nests if you choose to do so.
All materials will be provided and all skill levels welcome.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I enjoy the spiritual aspect of creating my work. I listen and respond to the moment of inspiration, sometimes starting with a preconceived idea of what I want to paint, only to find that the as the subject emerges it creates a voice of its own. At other times the mediums take on their own paths and become an expression of my emotions. The interplay with colors, values lines, shapes and textures are my voice to communicate to the viewer. The viewer`s experience is the final part of the artistic effort.
