Original Plein Air Oil Painting by Alex Trapp

We are pleased to introduce Alex Trapp

Alex Trapp spent his youth growing up in the California mountains. As an adult, he moved to the Pacific Northwest and has been here for over a decade exploring and backpacking the Cascade Mountains and Northwest Coast. Nature Alex’s inspiration in art. He stops to paint on many of his hikes seeking out quiet places of beauty. Many of his works are created on location, en plein air (a term coined by the French Impressionists meaning, "In open air.") Alex’s plein air works are small in size as he has to carry his equipment outside and use nature as his studio. A select few of his works are turned into large pieces during the winter months when the rain stops him from going out.
As a self-taught artist, Alex looks to the works of the California Impressionists and writings by Edgar Payne, John Carlson, Whistler, Zorn, and photographer, Ansel Adams, for guidance in achieving his own goals in the creative process. His personal intent in landscape painting is to stay true to the harmony of nature as he sees it while at the same time, attempting to achieve a visual melody for the viewer to experience through design and color.
You can contact Alex by email at atrappp@gmail.com by visiting his website at alextrappfineart.com or at the Art Gallery of SnoValley.
