Meet July Featured Artist Cynthia Faw

​Cynthia Faw is a Pacific Northwest artist who works in watercolor, ​oil and pastels. Her representational paintings evoke quiet interactions with the world around us, embracing seascapes, landscapes and peaceful urban idylls. She devotes her art to celebrating the beauty in finding contemplative places.
Her subjects are treated with expressive realism, with accents of color to enhance focus and whimsy in a scene. Cynthia’s sources include both real and imagined places she has experienced over a lifetime as an artist and architect. She has shown her work in PNW galleries and other venues. Cynthia has a degree in Fine and Applied Arts from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She holds a Master of Architecture degree from the same institution, where she also taught undergraduate design studios. Cynthia continues to take classes from PNW master artists with varied approaches to realistic painting, including Tom Hoffmann.
Cynthia is a member artist at the Art Gallery of SnoValley, a member of the Puget Sound Group of Northwest Artists, the Mt. Si Artist Guild, the Northwest Watercolor Society and the Seattle Art Museum.

I painted one of Snoqualmie’s Northwest Railway Museum’s favorite engines in watercolor, utilizing a rainbow of colors to suggest the glint of sunlight on steel as well as the patina of rust.

Lake Crescent Vacation

I sought to reflect the peacefulness of this idyllic mountain lake in Olympic National Park.  The location is the lake’s south shore, with the park lodge’s big Adirondack chairs.  Mist still descends from the nearby mountaintops on a summer afternoon.
