 Sydney Davis is a Pacific Northwest artist whose work moves fluidly between abstract expression and plein air painting. Whether she’s painting a landscape on location or distilling the inner glow of a geode or capturing the sweep of a shoreline from above, her pieces radiate bold color, organic movement, and a deep connection to the natural world. Some works offer an intimate, almost microscopic look at nature’s hidden structures—others expand into dramatic perspectives that feel both familiar and dreamlike. Along with her paintings, Sydney explores diverse materials—from fused glass to hand-built ceramic sculpture—each medium giving her another way to interpret the natural world that she loves. For her Featured Artist installation, Sydney presents a new series of mixed-media cyanotypes celebrating the flora and fauna of the Pacific Northwest and the long, luminous summer days that define the region. Cyanotype, invented in 1842 by Sir John Herschel, is one of the earliest photographic processes. Iron salts react to sunlight, transforming into the unmistakable deep Prussian blue that gives the medium its signature look.
